Environmental Management System –UNI EN ISO 14001
The environmental management system (EMS) is part of the overall management system which includes the organizational structure, planning activities, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes, resources for the development, application, monitoring, re-examination and maintenance of the environmental policy.
Each organization can develop its own EMS in compliance with:
-
The scheme proposed by UNI EN ISO 14001 or
-
The scheme proposed by the EMAS European regulation.
These schemes are internationally recognized . They were developed to be applied to any type or size of organizations in order to support them “improving continuously” their environmental performance. Such schemes do not set absolute requirements for environmental performance, but they do require, as a necessary condition for certification, objective evidence of the observance of the applicable law. This means that two organizations operating in the same sector, assuming that they are both in compliance with the regulations in force, even though they have different environmental performances, can obtain the certification of their EMS .
